Business meeting of PLUTON representatives and experts of city electric transport from different cities of Ukraine: Sumy, Lutsk, Bila Tserkva, Zhytomyr, Druzhkovka, Kramatorsk, Mykolayiv, Chernivtsi, Kropyvnytskiy, was held with the support of the LME "Lvivelektrotrans" in Lviv on February 2, 2017. The aim of the meeting, which brought together managers, chief engineers and heads of power utilities organizations, was presentation of PLUTON products in the context of completed projects in implementation of modular traction substation, as well as modernization of 19 existing traction substations and Lviv city electric transport power supply system operation control center.
The participants of the meeting visited up-to-date three-unit modular traction substation produced by PLUTON. This modular traction substation provides power supply of the new tram line in Lviv, connecting the largest residential area Sykhiv with the city center. Funding of the project was done under the loan of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

All the guests had the opportunity to get acquainted in detail with the new modular substation, which is built using innovative technical solutions designed to provide uninterrupted and reliable power supply, significantly reduce operating costs of substation and extend the lifetime equipment.

Modular substation is an automated, low-maintenance traction substation, requiring no personnel on duty. It should be noted that application of such complex solution as modular substation ensures high speed of installation, minimizing the required space and excluding the costs on capital construction. During presentation participants of the meeting observed modern level of technical solutions and automation, high quality of equipment and ergonomics.
Besides, during the meeting there was an excursion to traction substation TSS-1, as an example of outdated traction substations modernization by PLUTON. The applied solutions provide partial and complete replacement of existing substations equipment (or the main individual components) for the newer equipment, which allows realizing high energy efficiency, increase reliability of power supply, as well as to transfer the traction substations equipment in general to a qualitatively new level of control, diagnostics and monitoring.

The project on modernization, implemented in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, was carried out in 2016 by PLUTON and included the retrofitting of 19 traction substations and operator control center with modern equipment, in particular:
  • Complete and partial modernization of medium voltage switchgear 6 kV and DC switchgear 600 V;
  • Modernization of auxiliaries equipment;
  • Modernization of substations remote control system and operator control center (including implementation of SCADA system);
  • Implementation of a comprehensive energy metering system;
  • Installation of security and fire alarm system;
  • Implementation of the necessary civil works.

Participants of the meeting also visited the operator control center, got acquainted with the equipment for operators work, saw the most interesting and modern power system control technologies, and watched operator work in real time.

Special attention was attracted to the modern operator control system based on integrated SCADA-system that provides remote control of power supply circuit and continuous monitoring of all the substations equipment condition.
The issues of modern equipment application at traction substations of city electric transport of Ukraine and the prospects for cooperation were discussed during the meeting.

It should be noted that this was not the first meeting in such a format at LME "Lvivelektrotrans" sites. Representatives of Ternopil and Ivano-Frankivsk city electric transport enterprises visited modular substation and modernized substation TSS-1 in December 2016. PLUTON is always opened to such meetings at the implemented by the company existing sites not only in Ukraine but also abroad. We look forward to seeing our partners, friends and guests at our meetings and presentations, where we are happy to introduce our equipment to you.
In conclusion, we’d like to thank LME "Lvivelektrtrans" for the unique opportunity to hold such a meeting and also to thank all the participants for their attention and interest, professional and fruitful dialogue, and intention to go further along the way of development of electric transport in Ukraine together with PLUTON.
